Meet Travis Warren

Travis Warren, a senior from Gilbert, Arizona, has always loved building things. Whenever he sees something that can be improved, Travis finds a way to make it happen. After returning home from his mission in Melbourne, Australia, Travis knew he wanted to attend BYU as it had been his lifelong dream, but he couldn’t decide on a major. Eventually, his love for building things and helping others led him to the Construction Management program, which turned out to be a perfect fit for him.

Since joining the major, Travis has been extremely involved. He has worked as a TA for seven semesters and counting, and he loves getting to know construction management students and professors through his job. Travis has also competed on BYU’s Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Mixed Use Team, which earned third place at a regional competition in 2021 and second place at the same competition in 2022. Travis currently serves as vice president of the Construction Management Student Association and loves being able to share his passion for the major with other students. Travis also enjoyed working as an assistant superintendent for a home builder in Utah in 2022 and as a project manager for Boeing in Seattle last summer. He says that his favorite class was Construction Project Management because it directly applied to the real world and helped him succeed at Boeing.

Outside of his major, Travis keeps busy with a variety of hobbies. He is a huge fan of BYU sporting events, and he enjoys playing any and all sports. He loves intramurals and has played on intramural teams for flag football, innertube water polo, basketball, and soccer! The Construction Management major even has its own flag football team that Travis has enjoyed playing on for the past few years, allowing him to get to know others in the major and bringing him lifelong friends. Travis also enjoys golfing, dirt biking, and spending time with his wife, Alli.

When asked what advice Travis would give to other students in the college, he responded, “Get involved!” He recommends that students never pass up an opportunity to go to an info session or talk with an industry professional because great things might come of it. Travis has learned to focus less on getting perfect grades and focus more on gaining experience and networking with others, which he feels will be the greatest benefit to his future.

Travis says that he is always having a good time, no matter what. His favorite place on campus is the Construction Management Lab in SNELL 219, where he gets to combine his love for construction management and his love for sports by helping students with their work and beating them in cornhole. Travis says to come visit!

We are thankful to have Travis as a student in the College of Engineering and appreciate his positivity and passion.
