SIOY
BYU engineering students frequently participate in the university’s annual Student Innovator of the Year (SIOY) competition. Many participants have kickstarted successful businesses such as Owlet, MyoStorm, and PhoneSoap, and several teams have gone on to participate in the hit ABC TV show Shark Tank.

BYU Capstone Projects
Brigham Young University’s Capstone course has gained a reputation as one of the finest student mentoring experiences of its type in the country.
Capstone is a required, two-semester course for senior-level students, the heart of which is designing, testing, and prototyping a real-world industry engineering challenge for a company sponsor.
BYU Engineering Capstone team builds heat-efficient Gers in Mongolia that reduce pollution.

BYU Engineering Together
BYU Engineering Together (BE Together) is the title given to the College’s organized effort to foster an environment of belonging for all our students. We highlight outstanding students, host events fostering collaboration, provide support and resources, and connect students to research mentorships. We also help students utilize the resources of the University’s Office of Belonging.
Research
BYU has over 100 state-of the-art laboratories, including:
- A 20,000 square foot Engineering Research Laboratory
- Wind tunnels
- A water tunnel
- Engine test cells
- A high-bay for several combustion reactors
- A class 10 cleanroom
- Extensive facilities for designing, prototyping, manufacturing, and computing
100% of students are engaged in experiential learning through BYU Capstone, study abroads, or mentored research.
Current Research
The college offers 50 research mentorships each year, providing students with an opportunity to work in a lab, gain valuable experience, and connect with professors and current students.
