Friday, Nov. 1
MPC “The Day of Dead”: The Museum of Peoples and Cultures is hosting its “Día de los Muertos” event from 7 to 9 p.m. In this “Day of the Dead” celebration, the museum invites BYU students to experience its new exhibit, "Nuchu: Voices of the Ute People," and enjoy learning about Hispanic culture and traditions. University Devotional: Elder Ulisses Soares, a member of the Presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will speak at the Brigham Young University campus devotional at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center. Thursday and Friday, Nov. 7-8
Annual Social Work Conference: BYU's School of Social Work will host its annual conference in the Wilkinson Student Center. This year's topic is “DSM-5: Diagnostic Differentials and Treatment.” The conference will provide mental health professionals with the opportunity to better familiarize themselves with and expand their skills in using the newest edition of the DSM to better diagnose and treat their clients. Free CEU credits will be offered in social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, and counseling and mental health. BYU Welsh Choir Concert: In their second concert of the semester, the BYU Welsh Choir will bring a night of Welsh music, tradition and fun. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in B092 Joseph F. MPC Mystery Dinner Date Night: The Museum of Peoples and Cultures joins with BYU recreation management students to host “The Murder at the Museum,” a mystery dinner party beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $24 per couple (dinner and dessert included) and will go on sale Monday, Nov. 4, at the Wilkinson Student Center Information Desk. FHE at the MPC: Every second and fourth Monday of each month, the Museum of Peoples and Cultures hosts a Family Home Evening event for local groups. Admission is $5 per group ($10 for groups over 15 people) and the activities offer a tour and a take-home craft. Reservations must be made by noon on the day of the event. Nintendo Night at The Wall: The Student Activities Board will host a video game tournament at The Wall, 1151 Wilkinson Student Center, from 4 to 7 p.m. Participants will compete in rounds of Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart and Just Dance. House of Learning Lecture: The Harold B. Lee Library is hosting a House of Learning lecture, “Arthur Rackham, 'Scaring Children Out of the Nursery and the Contemporary Artists that Follow Him,'” given by Bethanne Andersen at 2 p.m. in the library auditorium on level one. BYU Office Professionals Luncheon: This month's OPAC brown bag guest speaker will be Larry Stevenson, MPA, who has helped thousands of people in more than 30 countries land the job they love, earn the biggest raises and get the best promotions. He will discuss “Getting Excited About Coming to Work -Again!” He is the author of five books, including “Do the Work You Love: Planning a Rewarding Career.” He will speak at noon in 3220 Wilkinson Student Center. All campus office professionals are welcome.
