Judging Rubric

Student Innovator of the Year (SIOY) Competition

Projects will be scored on a scale from one to seven using the criteria below under each category:

Engineering - 50%

Engineering Process (25%) - Through an iterative process of prototyping and/or testing the team has demonstrated the ability to produce a final product.

Effectiveness (25%) - The product effectively achieves the purpose for which it was designed.

Innovation - 35%

New or Unique Solution (20%) - The team has identified a new or unique solution that provides a distinct advantage to a clear problem.

Expertise (15%) - The team has demonstrated knowledge and expertise in their discipline to lend credibility to their innovation.

Impact - 15%

External Validation (15%) - The team’s evidence from external sources strongly indicates that their product creates a significant, positive change for the consumer and/or society.
