SEPTEMBER STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

|
|
Meet Malaya Canite, a cybersecurity student who loves the growth and discovery that she experiences in her major. After living outside the mainland United States for most of her life, she developed a growth mindset that has taken her far in her education and career. She participated in the BE Together Research Mentorship program, has been a TA, and plays video games with friends or enjoys temple gardens in her free time. Applications for the annual Student Innovator of the Year competition are open!
This competition gives creative and innovative students like you the opportunity to produce a product with a team and lay the foundation for future career prospects in the years to come. After several prototypes, mentoring, presentations, and feedback, teams compete against each other in a final competition to win part of the total $50K in prize money.

To qualify for the dean's list, you must have...
- A minimum of 14 credits during the semester (or 7 during the term)
- A minimum 3.5 GPA for the semester/term
- And be ranked in the top 5% of the college for the semester/term

BYU's 150 Capstones For Our 150th Year
Did you know that this year, in October 2025, marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of our university? To celebrate light and giving, capstone students will innovate with hope in mind and design real-world solutions to global humanitarian challenges. Celebrate with these students and the university at the university's website to read more about BYU 150, and check out how BYU Engineering is participating with an initiative of hope.
Student Leadership WCSL Grants
Applications are open now! The Weidman Center offers funding in these grants for select students who find or design high-quality, student-led engineering experiences that develop problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills. Applicants also find a faculty member to advise or mentor the experience. Learn more here about what these grants could help you achieve.

BYU Free Wellness Coaching: Did you know that BYU Student Wellness offers free, one-on-one wellness coaching for both students and employees? Trained student coaches can help you set goals and stay accountable in these areas: social strategies, stress management, physical wellness, nutritional wellness, and intuitive eating. Learn more about how this resource can help you and get involved here. BYU Student Wellness is eager to help any who want to benefit from wellness coaching!

BYU Community Legal Clinic: This resource provides free legal services to those in need and those who want to help others. Run by BYU Law professors and students, you can find the clinic in the BYU Office of Belonging at the Wilk on Thursdays from 5-7pm. Walk-ins are welcome, but it's recommended to email ahead for an appointment. The following help is available at the Clinic:
- Help with immigration issues
- Listening and guidance to first steps about any legal issue (contracts, housing, etc.)
- Courses for non-lawyers on citizenship and other community classes
- This includes a new BYU course on representing individuals navigating U.S. Immigration Law. It will be available soon!
- Assistance in both English and Spanish

Financial Well-being: As the semester begins, you may have questions about your financial future. Whether wrestling with immediate concerns or long-term planning, BYU Enrollment Services has many resources for you, including a series of articles on financial fitness with topics ranging from grocery shopping habits to managing your credit, understanding interest, protecting personal property, etc. Find the articles and other resources at financialplan.byu.edu, where you can also make an appointment for personalized financial information and guidance.
