NOVEMBER STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Meet Samantha Sifuentes, a TES major from Huntington Beach, California. She and her sidekick, Skipper the Chihuahua, transferred to BYU and switched majors halfway through her degree. In the TES program, she found friends during culture shock. She carries the pride of her family through her education as a first-generation student. When she’s not engaging in hands-on learning at the Toolbox, one could find her outside with her camera or making chunky blankets. Read Samantha’s story here.

COLLEGE LECTURE: COREY WURTZBACHER

Corey Wurtzbacher is the Vice President and General Manager of Technology and Global Sales Support at Caterpillar Inc. He executes sales strategy for the mining team while focusing on safety, productivity, and asset management for customers. Corey has over 30 years of expertise in product development and order-to-delivery, with a variety of roles in engineering, operations, and purchasing. He holds degrees from Eastern Michigan University and University of Detroit Mercy.

He will deliver his address, “Powering Progress: Energy Transition and Autonomous Solutions in Mining," to our BYU Engineering community at this month’s College Lecture, Thursday, November 13 at 11 a.m. in the JSB auditorium.

BYU 150: BEACONS OF LIGHT
At BYU Engineering, we are participating in the initiative of hope that the university is taking to celebrate its sesquicentennial anniversary! We are featuring seven ways BYU engineers have been "beacons of light" as a part of BYU 150. In each of our newsletters this year, we'll share one of them with you.

This month: Tiny Temples.
Students and faculty accomplished the world’s smallest 3D printing to convert biomedical lab machines into one tiny chip. Their practice method of choice? Miniature temples.
