OCTOBER STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Meet Chase Thompson, a senior in construction management. He loved his mission, serving during the COVID-19 pandemic in Arkansas instead of his original call to Peru. After hearing about negative experiences with construction from people in his hometown of Highland, Utah, he started a club at BYU to encourage fair and Christlike construction ethics. He interned with Okland Construction to build a small parking garage in Murray, Utah. In the summertime, he loves to run and go mountain biking. Read Chase’s story or watch him tell it here.

COLLEGE LECTURE: GARY BROWN

Gary Brown is an honored alum of BYU Engineering and, before retiring, most recently worked as the Vice President of Microprocessor (CPU) Engineering at NVIDIA Corporation, a multi-site company that engineers CPU architecture, design, and verification. Over more than 30 years of engineering, he pioneered CPU design and solutions with wide applications across the industry. He has applied his experience to develop engineers of the future, being a representative on various advisory boards in engineering academia. He has left a legacy of engaging with engineering students everywhere, especially here at BYU. He will deliver his address, “Go All In and Don’t Flinch” to our BYU Engineering community at the first College Lecture of the semester, Thursday, October 16 at 11 a.m. in the JSB auditorium.

BYU 150: BEACONS OF LIGHT
Celebrate BYU's 150th Year
President Reese called BYU a "Christ-centered, prophetically directed university of prophecy." As we reflect on 150 years of spreading light, we are finding ways to fulfill the "double heritage" that Spencer W. Kimball prophesied of, balancing spiritual and secular knowledge.
BYU 150 Website
In BYU Engineering, we are participating in the initiative of hope that the university is taking to celebrate! As a part of BYU 150, we are featuring seven ways BYU engineers have been "beacons of light." In each of our newsletters this year, we'll share one of them with you.

This month: A Book of Mormon Spectrum.
A student and faculty team used their engineering skills to create the world’s smallest Book of Mormon on a chip. The team combined their creativity with faith, bearing testimony that God is in everything, even the little things.
