Hi *|FNAME|*
Just a couple of quick logistical updates about the SIOY Showcase tomorrow:
- In case our reserved parking spots in lots 5A and 30A fill up, we were able to reserve just a few more parking spots in lot 6A (not on map), directly south of the Engineering Building. There won't be signs there, but the reserved spots will have cones, just like in the other lots.
- Due to the visit of President Dallin H. Oaks as the university's Devotional speaker, our check-in schedule will be a little tighter as we get started. We'll check you in starting at 11:50, and then we'll get started with the judging instructions shortly thereafter.
That's it. The other details are as before, and I've left the updated summary for you here below my signature.
Thank you again - our students are excited to share their projects with you and see how they stack up to the competition.

Prior to the Event:
Tuesday, Feb. 10:
- Engineering Building (EB): Here is a Google map to the Engineering Building, where we'll start and end the day.
- Parking: Judges parking is available immediately east of the EB in lot 5A, just north of J Dawgs in lot 30A, and a handful of spots reserved in lot 6A immediately south of the Engineering Building. Look for the "SIOY Judges Parking" signs, and please park in the stalls designated with an orange cone. You can just move the cone to the front of your stall when you arrive (the entrance to 30A is from 820 N, the entrance to 6A is from 700 E). Follow the sidewalk on the south side of the EB up to the main entrance on the west side of the EB. Note: if no designated spots are available when you arrive, please park in one of the BYU visitor lots - across from the Wilkinson Student Center or in front of the Museum of Art. Judges who are also BYU employees, please leave the designated spots for our off-campus guests.
- 11:50 Check in and head upstairs
- 12 p.m. Welcome, grab lunch
- Judging app instructions. I'll show you how to use the judging app, review the judging criteria, and answer any questions you may have.
- 1 p.m. Showcase begins, judging starts, in the EB and Clyde Building
- 4:30 p.m. Formal judging period ends and we tally the results. You can leave whenever you're done judging, or you're invited to stay till the end if to see who advances to the final round.
- 5 p.m. Winners announced: The top 7 teams will be finalists appearing in the SIOY Final Competition. Of course we would love to have you in our audience at the final show on Feb. 26 from 3-5 p.m.!

The BYU College of Engineering's Weidman Center for Global Leadership hosts a student competition each year in partnership with the BYU Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology. The annual SIOY competition has kickstarted now-successful companies Owlet, Khione, PhoneSoap, MyoStorm and more across its 15-year history. Competitors can receive up to $400 in funding to facilitate prototyping, research, etc., and are in the running for a part of $50k in total prize money.
Competitors present their innovations at a showcase on February 10, 2026. Finalists are selected to present their ideas in a final event on February 26, 2026. Winners and audience favorites then receive thousands of dollars of prize money to make their ideas a reality. |
