SIOY Showcase Judging
Student Innovator of the Year Showcase

You are officially invited to be a judge at the BYU Engineering Student Innovator of the Year Showcase on Tuesday, February 10.

In November, mentors saw students' projects in the formative stages at the Speed Mentoring event. Those projects are now more fully formed and ready to compete. As an SIOY judge, you will evaluate engineering, innovation and impact of students' projects to help determine the competition finalists. Judges also provide valuable feedback that enables students to continue developing their innovations beyond the competition. 

Please join us on campus Tuesday, Feb. 10 from 12:00 to 4:30 p.m. for lunch and Showcase judging.

Here's a rundown of the day's activities.
Tuesday, Feb. 10:

  • 12 p.m. - Welcome, networking and lunch
  • 12:30 p.m. - Judging app instructions
  • 1 p.m. - Formal judging time begins (judges are welcome to leave whenever they're done judging)
  • 4:30 p.m. - Last call for submitting scores 
  • 5 p.m. - Finalists are announced (this information will also be sent later via email)

The BYU College of Engineering's Weidman Center for Global Leadership hosts a student competition each year in partnership with the BYU Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology. The annual Student Innovator Of the Year competition has kickstarted now-successful companies Owlet, Khione, PhoneSoap, MyoStorm and more across its 15-year history. Competitors can receive up to $400 in funding to facilitate prototyping, research, etc., and are in the running for a part of $50k in total prize money.

Competitors present their innovations at a showcase on February 10, 2026. Finalists are selected to present their ideas in a final event on February 26, 2026. Winners and audience favorites then receive thousands of dollars of prize money to make their ideas a reality.
